Web Design for Nonprofits, Churches and Community Organizations

Websites that tell your story, take donations, publish resources and are easy for volunteers to update, from a developer who started his career building nonprofit websites.

Volunteers of different ages sorting donated food and clothing into boxes in a community hall

My web career started inside a nonprofit organization: from 2001 to 2008 I built and maintained its websites and learned SEO along the way. Since then I’ve worked with ministries, publishers, community clubs, associations and an adoption agency.

Nonprofits need what every organization needs, plus a few things of their own: donation and membership tools, resource libraries, event calendars, sometimes multiple languages, and a site simple enough for volunteers to update without breaking anything. Budgets are tight, so long-term maintenance costs matter as much as the build.

How I approach nonprofits websites

Nonprofit projects start with the people who will keep the site running after launch. I set up roles and editing screens so volunteers can publish news, events and resources without touching the design, and I document the basics in plain language. Donations and memberships use trusted payment platforms, accessibility is checked against WCAG guidelines, and hosting is chosen to keep costs predictable. My aim is a site you maintain and gradually improve for many years, instead of paying for a full rebuild every few years.

What I build for nonprofits

  • Donation, membership and event registration
  • Resource libraries, catalogs and downloadable publications
  • Multilingual sites (English, Spanish and more)
  • Accessible design that meets WCAG guidelines
  • Simple editing for staff and volunteers
  • Affordable long-term maintenance

Challenges I solve

Volunteer-friendly editing

Content gets updated by different people over the years. The site has to be hard to break.

Donations & memberships

Giving, recurring donations and member areas need to be secure and simple.

Large resource libraries

Articles, audio, video and downloadable publications need to be organized and searchable.

Keeping costs predictable

Lean builds, sensible hosting and steady maintenance avoid expensive emergencies.

Can you build a multilingual site?

Yes. I’ve built and maintained sites in several languages, including Spanish-language ministry sites.
